Chase for Shoalhaven women’s silverware kicks off with exciting opening round

THE 2021 Shoalhaven District Football Association first grade women’s competition kicked off this week, with four sides securing crucial round one wins.

At the St Georges Basin Sporting Complex on Tuesday, the Dragons were no matched for the Seagulls on their return to the top grade – who ran out winners 5-nil.

Huskisson-Vincentia’s goals were scored by Madison Hawker (two), Jessica Climan, Mirina Simms and Emily Thompson.

Elsewhere, at Zealand Oval, Shoalhaven Heads-Berry Maroon smashed their Blue clubmates 12-1, thanks to hat-tricks from Mckenzie Jones and Ainsley Aldridge.

Others to find the back of the net for the victors were skipper Charlotte Ryan (two), Jamie Griffin, Sophie Martin, Rylee Woods and Maguire Page – with Jessie Boardman scoring the Blues’ lone goal.

The final Tuesday game in first grade saw Sussex Inlet down Illaroo 3-1.

While on Monday, Milton-Ulladulla thrashed Shoalhaven United 7-nil, behind four goals from Caylie Wise, two to Karyn Coleman and one from Emily May.

Callala had the bye in round one.

Next Tuesday, Heads Maroon hosts Illaroo, Huskisson play United, Milton face Heads Blue, Sussex takes on Callala and Basin have the bye.
